*Plant height will vary.

This is a unique Alocasia that is hard to find. It receives its name since the leaves are quite velvety plus are black! Black with white/silver veins, brilliant juxtaposition. There are not many plants that are Black in nature, but this is one of them! As the Elephant Ear matures, the color will become darker and it’ll appear more defined. Young leaves are almost translucent. This plant can grow to be 2ft tall and does not mind being placed in indirect sunshine.

The Dirt

Native to Malaysia and Borneo. The Genus name Alocasia is derived from the Greek word, Kolokasia, which means lotus. The Botanical Name: Alocasia Reginula, translates to, Little Queen Alocasia. This little queen can be finicky when it comes to watering. Black Velvet plants do not like to sit in constant moist or soggy soil. Soil aeration is key! And using moss is helpful. It is best to water your Black Velvet thoroughly/deeply but not frequently. Allow the soil to dry out between waterings.

Part Sun

This plant likes most rooms with windows facing west or east. You could place it in a spot away from a very sunny window – as light intensity goes down quick as you move away from the light source.

Medium

Water once a week. Before watering, feel the soil, top layer should be dry, if not dry wait a day or two. If the soil still is wet you risk giving the plant too much water, you don’t want it to rot.

Pet Toxic

Only when ingested it may cause mild oral and gastrointestinal upsetness. Keep out of reach from pets and small children.
